8.31.08 | Field Hockey
The Neumann College field hockey team began its season today travelling up to Scranton, PA., to take on the University of Scranton. Head Coach Sarah Kurpel was looking to challenge her team early with strong non-conference competition. Neumann was definitely challenged as the Knights lost 9-0 to the Royal. The Knights gave up back to back goals on two corners to the Royal just after the 13 minute mark. Knocked back on their heels, the Knights could not regain any momentum and gave up another five goals before the end of the first half. Neumann started five underclassmen today and they quickly learned the pace of the game is much faster. Starting backs sophomore Theresa Yurick (Pitman, NJ/Pitman HS) and freshman Megan Scott (Sea Cliff, NJ/North Shore HS) stated, “We were nervous to start the game. On top of that they beat us to the ball. We play a tough non-conference schedule and this will prepare us for the upcoming games.”  Neumann falls to 0-1 on the season while Scranton improves to 1-1. The Knights will play King’s College on Labor Day to finish their road trip.
