ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann College women’s basketball team opened its 2008-09 season with a 81-64 loss against Ferrum College at the Marymount Marine Corps Tip-Off Classic Friday evening.
Krista DiRomualdo led the Knights with 17 points. Brittany Whetts netted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Dominique Thompson scored 12 points.
Brittany Bullock led all scorers with 21 points. Miranda Carrasco had 15 points, Kristen Keith netted 10 and Ashley Norton added 10 for Ferrum.
Ferrum came out strong at the start of the game and built its lead up to 10 points, 37-27, at the half.
In the second half, the Knights got as close as three points, 46-43, before Ferrum went on a 7-0 run midway through the half to put the game out of reach. Neumann could not get any closer as Ferrum kept adding to its lead.
Neumann is 0-1 on the season and will face Richard Stockton tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the second round of the Marymount Marine Corps Tip-off.
