FH Beats Griffins, Advances to Championship Match

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Callie Emel scored three goals to lift the Neumann University field hockey team to a 3-1 win over Gwynedd-Mercy College Wednesday evening in a Colonial States Athletic Conference semifinal match-up.

Emel notched all three Knights goals. Maggie Carpenter made nine saves in net for the win.  

Emel opened the scoring on a penalty corner 3:10 into the game. The Griffins knotted the game at one in the 11th minute and the teams went to halftime tied.

Emel scored her second goal 2:17 into the second half to give Neumann the lead. The freshman scored her third goal on the evening in the 48th minute. 

Neumann will face Cabrini in a rematch of last year’s Championship game. The Cavaliers, the No. 4 seed in the playoffs, defeated No. 1 seeded Keystone, 2-0, in the other semifinal. Action will begin at 12:00 PM at Immaculata University as part of the 2009 Fall Festival.
