ASTON, Pa. – The 2009 men's tennis conference season will come to a close this weekend, as the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tennis Championships will be held this Friday and Saturday in Allentown, Pa. at West End Racquet Club.
Neumann College claimed the school's first tennis championship last season and will look to repeat this season to earn the conference's automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament. Neumann clinched the #1 seed by winning every CSAC match this season. The Knights will face the #4 seed, Marywood University, at 11 a.m. on Friday morning. The match between Gwynedd-Mercy College and Cabrini College will determine the #2 and #3 seed going into playoffs.
The Knights defeated Marywood earlier this season, but without battling for the win. In doubles action, the duo of David Pfister and Brian Crispin triumphed over Greg Chilson and Evan Bolus 8-4. Chris Brown and Dan Harnos defeated Tim Franzone and Dan Reynolds 8-3. The team of Greg Bridgeman and Steve Klenk won over Bao Nguyen and John Dominder 8-1.
Knights rolled the momentum gained from doubles into singles action. Pfister battled his way to win 7-5, 6-4 over Chilson. Brown won his singles match over Evan Bolus 6-1, 6-1. Crispin won in straight sets 7-6 (6), 6-4 over Franzone. Bridgeman defeated Reynolds 6-3, 6-1. Harnos won 6-1, 6-0 over Nguyen and Klenk rounded out the victory for the Knights beating Domider 6-2,6-0.
Coach Goose stated,“This is an exciting weekend for all four teams that qualified for the conference team playoffs. We look forward to the challenge of playing Marywood, hopefully advancing to the championship match and eventually winning the conference team championship.”
