Men's Lacrosse Picks Up First Win

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Neumann College men’s lacrosse team won its first game of the season in a come-from-behind effort over non-conference foe Hood College Thursday afternoon.

 

Justin Mailloux and Dominic Collichio each netted three goals for Neumann. Kyle Gardner and James McCauley had two goals apiece. Jake Boulay had 21 saves in net for the Knights.

 

Kris Miner and Dominique Shorter scored three goals for Hood. Nicholas O’Brien made seven saves in net.

 

Neumann took an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter. The teams then traded goals before the Knights scored three consecutive goals to start the second quarter. Collichio scored with one second left before halftime as the Knights took a 7-4 advantage into the break.

 

After Gardner scored one of his goals to start the second half, Hood started its comeback. The Blazers netted four straight goals to end the third quarter and cut the Knights lead to 9-8.

 

Matt Toth scored to start the fourth quarter and put the Knights back up by two, but Hood scored three goals over the next four minutes to take a 11-10 lead.

 

Mailloux netted a big goal with 4:19 remaining to tie the game. He scored again to put Neumann up by one with 2:15 left on the clock. Gardner netted his second goal of the game with 11 seconds remaining to seal the win for the Knights.

 

Neumann will host Centenary College on Saturday at Msgr. Bonner High School in conference play. The Face-off is slated for 1 p.m.
