Softball Beats Host Salisbury in NCAA Opener

SALISBURY, Md. – The Neumann College softball team defeated host Salisbury University, 3-0, Thursday afternoon in its first game at the NCAA Regionals.

 

Caitlin Hanrahan hit a solo homerun for the Knights. Lauren Strack had two hits, had an RBI and scored a run. Deanna Christy also had an RBI. Angela Sebasto (19-3) allowed just three hits in the shutout. She struck out four.

 

The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning. Sebasto started the inning with a single followed by a double by Jennifer Goslin. With two outs, Strack knocked in Sebasto with a single.

 

Hanrahan hit her solo shot to left field in the sixth inning to put Neumann u p 2-0. The Knights added an unearned insurance run in the seventh.

With the win, Neumann ends Salisbury's 30-game winning streak in the NCAA first round. It is also the Sea Gulls first loss at home since March 22, 2008, snapping a 32-home game winning streak

 

Neumann, the No. 7 seed in this region, will face No. 3 seeded Emory tomorrow at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available at this link.
