ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team defeated Morrisville State, 7-4, Saturday afternoon to earn a weekend split in non-conference action.
Matt Ward led the Knights with four points, two goals and two assists. Mat Valois netted two goals. Jordan Zalba and William Lacasse each had a goal and two assists. Steve Gervais added two assists.
Rob Sgarbossa had two goals and two assists for Morrisville St. Adam Hercules and Nick Kulas each had a goal and an assist. Tom Longland added two assists.
Sgarbossa opened the scoring 1:50 into the game. Neumann the netted two goals in 24 second as Jake Kratz and Ward scored. Sgarbossa scored his second goal at the 18:35 mark on the power play to send the teams in the locker rooms knotted at two.
Morrisville took a 3-2 lead 45 seconds into the second period on a power play goal. Valois tied the game 2:03 into the second. Ward then put the Knights ahead by one with a power play goal at the 9:31 mark. Lacasse added to the lead and scored the eventual game-winner on the power play at the 15:39 mark. The Knights took a 5-3 advantage into the second intermission.
Zalba added to the Knights goals 2:40 into the third. Morrisville would get a goal at the 4:09 mark. Valois capped the scoring at 6:49.
Jonathan La Rose made 29 saves in his Knights debut.
There were 37 penalties in the game.
The Knights improve to 9-6-2 on the season. Neumann will return to ECAC West action next weekend when it hosts Hobart College for two games.
