Neumann Basketball Hosts MLK Clinic

1/18/2010 3:49:14 PM

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University basketball teams spent their Martin Luther King, Jr. day hosting a basketball clinic benefiting the Community Action Agency of Delaware County (CAADC), which provides emergency services to needy and low-income families.

“This is a great day for the kids to learn not only about basketball skills but the importance of Martin Luther King, Jr.”, said Women's Head Coach Frank Farnese.

Coach Farnese along with Men's Basketball Head Coach Lenny Stanziano ran the clinic along with their players.

Coach Stanziano said, “Today is a great opportunity for Neumann Basketball to be involved with the community and promote the importance of honoring this day.”

The basketball teams split the kids up into their age groups and showed them the fundamentals of the game.

“Working with the kids is a good opportunity to mentor them about basketball and interact with the future athletes while having a blast,” said senior forward Caitlin Agnew.

“Camp was cool”, said Steven DelleMonache, a second grader. “I liked it because we did drills and got to play games and scrimmages. It was fun.”

Fourth grader Joey Hoy said, “Basketball is awesome. I loved playing with the teams and seeing my mom at work.”

Overall, this was the ninth Annual Hoops from the Heart basketball clinic hosted by Cabrini College, Haverford College, Neumann University and Springfield High School in 2010.  All proceeds from the events will be donated to CAADC, a non-profit organization which provides services to low-income Delaware County residents striving for self-sufficiency.  The clinics have raised over $30,000 for Community Action since they began in 2002.
