GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell to Gettysburg College, 59-55, in a semifinal of the 20th Annual Days Inn Women's Basketball Tournament, hosted by Gettysburg College.
The Knights were led by Brittany Whetts with 19 points and nine rebounds. Krista DiRomualdo netted 14. Katie Young pulled down a game-high 18 boards.
Gettysburg was led by Caitlin Moser who netted 17 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. Courtney Field notched 11 points and Sara Kinsley added 10.
The Bullets built their lead up to as many as 12 points, 44-32, midway through the second half. Neumann would then go on a 14-4 run to cut the lead to two, 48-46, with 4:31 left on the clock. However, Gettysburg netted the next five points to increase its lead back to seven.
Neumann would get to within three points when DiRomulado hit a three-pointer with a minute remaining. Gettysburg would make free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach. Whetts connected on a shot from behind the arc with two seconds left, but it wasn't enough.
Neumann (5-4) will face Richard Stockton College in the consolation game tomorrow at 2 p.m. The Knights fell to Stockton in the season opener, 71-59.
