Whetts Named ECAC South Region Player of the Week

ASTON, Pa. – Brittany Whetts, of the Neumann University women's basketball team, was named the ECAC South Region Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and third time overall this season, announced Tuesday. 

Whetts led Neumann to a 3-0 record in three conference games last week in games against Philadelphia Biblical, Cabrini and Gwynedd-Mercy. Against Cabrini, the senior notched 17 points and four assists. She also had nine rebounds and two blocks as the Knights defeated Cabrini for the first time since the 2005-06 season. 

Against the Griffins, Whetts had a game-high 26 points while adding three assists. She also pulled down 16 rebounds and picked up three steals. In the three games, she averaged 19.6 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.0 blocks. 

On the season, Whetts is averaging 18.6 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. She is 33 points away from tying the women's school record for points in a career. Kaleena Simmons ('00-'04) is the current leader with 1,608 points. 

Whetts was also named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Player of the Week, the second time she received this honor. 

Neumann will host Alvernia Thursday evening in non-conference action. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in the Mirenda Center.
