PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Neumann University men’s ice hockey team defeated #13 Manhattanville, 4-3, Friday evening in ECAC West action.
The Knights win snapped the Valiants 10-game winning streak. Matt Ward led Neumann with a goal and two assists. Marlon Gardner had a goal and an assist. William Lacasse dished out two assists.
Mat Valois scored the only goal of the first period, 8:58 into the game. The goal came on the power play off an assist from Marlon Gardner. Ross MacKinnon made 33 saves in net.
Manhattanville’s Mickey Lang scored two goals in 1:44 during the second period to take a 2-1 lead. Ward answered on the player play and knotted the game at two at the 10:10 mark. Bill Foster then gave Neumann a one-goal lead again two minutes later. The Knights held the 3-2 advantage in the second intermission.
The Valiants tied the game again 3:42 into the third period with a power play goal. Gardner netted the game-winner with 5:30 left on the clock. Jordan Zalba and Ward assisted on the goal.
Neumann improves to 11-8-2 overall and 4-5-2 in the conference. The two teams will meet again tomorrow night. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m.
