ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team is going dancing for the first time in its program's history. The Knights received the automatic qualifier for the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) after winning the Championship on Sunday.
The Knights will face host Messiah College at 7 p.m. Friday night.
Neumann defeated Gwynedd-Mercy, 75-58, in the CSAC Championship game on Sunday. It's the Knight's first conference championship since the 1988-89 season when they won the PAIAW. The win also gave Neumann its first 20 win season since 1987-88.
Neumann is led by CSAC Player of the Year Brittany Whetts. The senior is leading the team, averaging 20.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Senior Nicole Feby nets 9.6 ppg. Junior Katie Young added 8.2 points and 9.3 boards.
Messiah is 23-4 this season and won the Commonwealth Championship with a 60-55 win over Lebanon Valley College. Two Falcons average double-figures for the season. Julie Henninger is scoring 12.2 ppg while Dori Gyori adds 10.9.
Also playing at the regional is Mount Union and Washington & Jefferson. They will play in the first game of the evening, beginning at 5 p.m. The winners of the two games will meet on Saturday at 7 p.m.
All games will take place in Brubaker Auditorium. Doors will open to the public at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon. Tickets for all NCAA National Tournament games are $6 for adults, $3 for senior citizens, $3 for children ages five through 12 and $3 for students with ID. Children ages four and under are admitted free. Fans unable to attend the games at Messiah will have the option of listening to all the action on the radio dial (90.7 FM) or on the world wide web, as WVMM, Messiah College Radio, will cover all tournament games with live, play-by-play action. Live Stats will also be available for all three games taking place during the weekend.
