ASTON, Pa. – Neumann University's Ray Schmoltze, of the baseball team, was named Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 28, 2010.
The junior was also named the ECAC South Region Pitcher of the week, announced Tuesday.
Schmoltze threw the first no-hitter in Neumann history in the 12-1 win over Centenary College on Saturday afternoon. The right hander carried a perfect game into the 7th (7.1). A few errors in the 7th eliminated the perfect game, but Schmoltze closed out the inning strong to take home the win. He finished the game with 8 strikeouts and improves his record to 3-2.
Joe Armata was named to The Colonial States Athletic Conference Player Honor Roll for the week ending March 28, 2010. Armata was 7-4 on the week, and 5-11 in conference play. He drove in four runs including his first career homerun, adding two doubles and a triple. Defensively he caught all 23 innings in a 3 game sweep of Centenary College. He also threw out two runners on the week.
Neumann swept Centenary in three games in a CSAC weekend series. Earlier in the week, the Knights defeated DeSales to go 4-0 for the week. Neumann is now 8-8 overall and opens 3-0 in the conference.
