BETHANY, W.V. – The Neumann University men's basketball team ended its season with a close, 70-68, loss to Bethany College in the first round of the ECAC South Region Tournament Wednesday evening.
Na’Sheed Linton netted 14 points for the Knights. John Lewis netted 13 while Ty Robinson added 10.
Bethany went on an 11-0 run that ended at 11:22 with a basketball by Mike Walukiewicz. The Bison’s then took a timeout as the Knights scored six straight points to make the score 22-16. Linton cut the BC lead to 24-21 with 5:10 on the clock after making a basket and being fouled. O’Conner put the Knights to within with 1:06 left in the half, 30-29. The Bison’s made the last basket of the half and took a 32-29 advantage into the locker rooms.
The Bison’s would build its lead to six a few times throughout the second half. But Neumann did not let up and the Knights took their first lead of the game, 55-53, at the 7:10 mark on a John Lewis three pointer. Bethany came right back and tied the game at 55-all. Bethany took a 68-63 lead with 1:35 left in regulation, but three points by Linton and two by Boggs knotted the game again, this time at 68 with 1:11 on the clock. The Bison’s took a 70-68 lead with 37 seconds on the clock. Neumann then fouled Bethany, but missed both shots. Linton attempted a three-pointer at the buzzer, but missed and Bethany held on for the 70-68 win.
Bethany held a 14 points advantage during the first half and had 10 points off of second changes. The Bison’s also hit four from beyond the arc, where the Knights did not connect. For the game, Bethany held a 14-2 advantage on second chance points.
Neumann ends its season 16-13. Bethany advanced to the ECAC semifinals.
