Baseball Defeats Centenay to Stay Alive

BOYERTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team overcame a 5-0 deficit to defeat Centenary College, 8-5, at the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship Tournament Friday afternoon.

Centenary put two runs on the scoreboard in the first, followed by three runs in the second for an early 5-0 lead.

Neumann then shut the door and started its comeback. In third inning, the Knights plated six runs. The first three batters got on base as did six of the first seven. Mathieu Vallieres capped the rally with a two-run single to right field.

The Knights added two unearned runs in the sixth inning for some breathing room.

Russell Gilliam went 8.1 innings for the win. He allowed the five runs, two earned, on 10 hits. He struck out 11. Matt Compton pitched the final two outs in relief.

Neumann (19-16-1) advances and will face either Gwynedd-Mercy or Keystone tonight for a chance to play in the Championship Game tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. in Boyertown.
