DOVER, Del. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated La Roche College, 6-3, Saturday morning in a semifinal of the ECAC South Region Tournament in Dover, Del.
Neumann came into the tournament as the No. 2 seed. La Roche is No. 6.
Russell Gilliam went 6.1 innings and allowed three runs and struck out four. Matt Compton went 2.0 scoreless innings and got the win. Erik Klimoff pitched the final 0.2 innings and picked up the save.
Neumann and La Roche went into the eighth inning knotted at three when the Knights plated three runs for a 6-3 lead. Kevin Flanigan knocked in the game-winning run on a double to right center. Brent Tamame hit a two-run single up the middle to give the Knights some insurance runs.
The Redhawks scored first in the game on a solo shot in the third inning. The Knights responded with two runs in the home half of the third inning. Gary Mitchell scored Neumann’s third run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.
La Roche knotted the game up at three on a few doubles in the seventh inning.
Neumann will face the winner of the No. 1 Wesley / No. 4 Bethany at 4 p.m. this afternoon for the ECAC South Region Championship.
