ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team defeated Sacred Heart University 6-2 Sunday evening in the Championship Game of the NU Women's Ice Hockey Classic.

Diane Peters had a hat trick for the Knights. Nicole Alexopoulos netted a shorthanded goal and notched an assist. Jessica Schroeder and Nikk Blazenko dished out two assists. Shannon Donnelly made 25 saves in net.

Alexopoulos opened the scoring with her shorthanded goal 5:24 into the first periods. Sacred Heart tied the game at one at the 11:43 mark. The Knights then netted three more goals in the first to take a 4-1 lead going into the first intermission.

Peters scored the only goal of the second period for a 5-1 Neumann lead.

The Pioneers scored 3:37 into the third period for a 5-2 score. Peter then got her hat trick with an empty net goal with 54 seconds left in the game.

Neumann (7-4-2) will get back into conference play next weekend when host its Oswego. Game time on Friday is 7 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
