Purpuro Named CSAC Pitcher of the Year

ASTON, Pa. – Rachel Purpuro was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Pitcher of the Year, announced on Monday by the conference office.

 

Purpuro was also named first team All-Conference. She was joined by Kelly Goslin (designated player) and Mariah Ripken (outfield).

 

Purpuro is 13-2 this season with an ERA of 1.84. In 106.2 innings pitched, the junior has struck out 144 while walking just 22.

 

Goslin is batting .469 in 19 games this season. The freshman has five doubles and four homeruns on 23 hits. She has also scored 13 runs.

 

Ripken is batting .350 in 36 contests. In 100 at-bats, the sophomore has knocked in 15 runs, scored 25 and hit seven doubles.

 

Three Knights were named to the second team All-Conference: Laruen Strack (second base), Callie Emel (third base) and Kim Kirkpatrick (shortstop).

 

Strack has played in 36 games, starting in 31. In 100 at-bats, the senior has 33 hits, three doubles and 20 RBI.

 

Emel is batting .427 this season and leads the team with seven homeruns, 44 hits and 42 RBI. The sophomore also has eight doubles and has scored 27 runs.

 

Kirkpatrick has played and started in 35 games this season. The senior has hit five homeruns, three triples, six doubles and knocked in 24 runs. She also has scored 33 runs and has 34 hits.

 

Three Knights also received Honorable Mention: Jackie Herrington (first base), Crystal Perlman (outfield) and Nicki Spina (utility).

 

Herrington has played in 37 games and is batting .360. She has four homeruns, 12 doubles and 27 RBI on 41 hits. The sophomore has not committed an error in the field this season.

 

Perlman is batting .345 in 37 games. She leads the team in at-bats with 116. The sophomore 40 hits and 35 RBI on seven doubles, four homeruns and two triples.

 

Spina has started in 36 contests and not committed an error in the field. In 103 at-bats, the freshman has hit nine doubles, two triples and two homeruns. She has scored 31 runs and knocked in 22.

 

Jordan Cline received the Sportsmanship award. She has played in 11 games and has knocked in three runs. She has six hits, one being a triple.

 

Neumann finished the regular season 27-11 overall and 20-2 in the CSAC. The Knights are the No. 1 seed going into the playoffs and will be the host at the Drifton Sport Complex in Hazelton, Pa. this weekend.
