ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University volleyball team defeated Notre Dame of Maryland University 3-0 in the first round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) postseason on Tuesday evening.
Kelsey D'Imperio led the Knights with 13 kills on 22 changes for a hitting percentage of .455. Katelin Kuklentz added nine kills. Kat Wolf handed out 36 assists.
Kuklentz and Julia Malseed each had 11 digs on the defensive side.
The first set remained close at first until Kuklentz served six straight points and the Knights jumped out to a 17-7 lead. The Gators did not want to give up on the first set easily and while the Knights were sitting on 24 points, Notre Dame rattled off four points. Neumann held on and came away with a 25-20 win.
In the second set, Neumann scored nine of the first 10 points and didn't look back. The Knights came away with the 25-10 win.
The third set was much like the first as the teams stayed within a few points of each other. The Knights were leading 13-12 before they then scored five consecutive points for an 18-12 lead. Neumann cruised the rest of the way and a kill by Kuklentz sealed the match, 25-17.
With the win, Neumann (21-13) advances to the CSAC semifinals and will travel to Cairn on Thursday evening. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
