OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team pulled off an upset by beating Oswego State University 3-0 in the first round of the ECAC West playoffs, Saturday afternoon.

The No. 6 Knights love being on the road, as they defeated the No. 3 Lakers on their home ice from goals by Keira St - Laurent, Edie Brenning and Megan Russelo. Shannon Donnelly stymied the Lakers with a shutout and making 33 saves.

St-Laurent scored the Knights first goal in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The goal was scored on a power play and assisted by Brenning and Olivia Pryzbylkowski at the 10:53 mark.

Neumann and Oswego battled in the second period to no goals and still a Knights 1-0 advantage going into the third period.

Statistics support that the Knights best period for goals was in the third period and the Knights took that fact to heart, as they scored two goals in the third period alone. Brenning opened the third period with a goal at 10:39 and Russelo followed her lead with a goal at 14:09. Shanelle Doucette, Jessica Langdon, Brenning and Amanda Simpson had an assist on either  the second or third goals for the Knights.

Neumann conceded four power plays on the day, but Oswego went 0-4 and the Knights went 1-5.

“I just couldn't be more proud of the girls, it is great to see us come together at the right time of year”, said Coach Handrahan. “Donnelly was on fire and just simply shut down Oswego today, but everyone made a tremendous contribution to the game”.

The Knights (10-15-1) travel to either No. 1 Plattsburgh State in the semifinals of the ECAC West Championships on March 2.
