Baseball Falls 7-2 to Rams

AUBURN, N.Y. – The Neumann University baseball team fell to Farmingdale State 7-2 on Wednesday morning in the first game of the NCAA Regional in Auburn, N.Y.

 

Neumann tried to take advantage of some Farmingdale errors in the first inning, but left the bases loaded.

 

The teams remained scoreless until the fifth inning when the Rams plated three runs. The Knights got one run back in the top of the sixth as Buddy Elgin scored on a Rams error.

 

In the eighth inning, Bill Pace opened with a double. Matt Sheneman then singled for runners on first and third with no one out. Andrew Snow hit a pinch hit single to score Pace and a 3-2 game. The Knights threatened but could not get the tying run across.

 

Farmingdale scored four runs in the eighth inning to take a 7-2 lead going into the top of the ninth. Neumann could not put the hits together in the ninth and fell 7-2.

 

Matt Spillman (8-2) started then game and went 7.1 innings. He allowed five runs on six hits. Jake Yarber and Brendan Melody finished the eighth inning on the mound.

 

Neumann (29-14) will face Moravian tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM in the first elimination game.
