ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team won its two games on Day 1 of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championships and advanced to the Championship game on Saturday.
In the first game of the day for the Knights, Neumann defeated Gwynedd-Mercy 3-0. All three runs came in the sixth inning. Danielle Grayson scored the first run after Megan Williams hit a single and the left fielder bobbled the ball, allowing Grayson to score. Allyson Paris hit a single followed by Mariah Ripken knocking in Williams and Parris with a double.
Lauren Wilkie pitched a complete game, going 7.0 innings and striking out six for the shutout.
In the second game, Neumann put two runs on the board in the first inning and did not relinquish the lead en route to the 6-0 win. Callie Emel hit a two-run single to knock in Allie White and Becca Reinhart.
The Knights added three runs in the second inning. Ripken scored when Reinhart walked with the bases loaded. Grayson then hit a two-run single to allow Katie Halter and White to cross home plate. Ripken knocked in Grayson in the fourth inning for an insurance run.
Allyson Parris went 4.0 innings for the win. Kristin Beaty picked up the save, going 3.0 hitless innings.
With the two wins, Neumann (28-14) advances to the CSAC Championship game on Saturday. The Knights will face the winner of the Keystone/Gwynedd-Mercy game at 10 AM. The Championship game will begin at 12 PM, followed by a deciding game at 2 PM if necessary.
