Women's Lacrosse Can't Contain Cabrini in CSAC Title Game

RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team could not hold down Cabrini College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship game, as they lost 22-11, on Saturday afternoon.
 
On a beautiful day, where Neumann were counting down the days to play against Cabrini in the post season, fate would not go their way. Meghan Garsey led the Knights with two goals and two assist. Lexy Wilkinson added three goals and Chrissy Hughes made 12 saves.
 
The Cavaliers scored the first two goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead with 24:47 remaining in the first half.
 
Wilkinson scored the first goal for the Knights on a free position shot and cut the lead to 2-1.
 
The Cavaliers strung three consecutive goals and take a 5-1 lead.
 
Garsey stepped up and scored on a free position goal at the 15:12 mark and trail the Cavaliers 5-2.
 
The Knights fought back with Wilkinson and Amanda Fedak each scoring and cut the Cavaliers lead in half by a score of 10-5.
 
Natalie Basunga gave the Knights to think about at the halftime break, when she scored with 27 seconds left in the half. It was Basunga's fourth of the game, as she finished with seven goals and three assist.
 
Both teams would exchange goals to start the second half and then Cabrini ran off five consecutive goals in a two minute and two seconds span to take an 18-8 lead.
 
The Knights continued to battle through the game, but they couldn't overcome the Cavaliers advantage in draw controls 20-8 and shots taken 48-26.
 
Alexis McIntyre showed well for the Knights with one goal and accounting for six ground balls.
 
“I'm so proud of our girls and all that they accomplished this season,” said Coach Malone. “I'm disappointed for the girls and wanted to see them rewarded with winning the conference championship, but hopefully we can continue to keep the season going by getting an ECAC bid.”
 
Neumann can take great delight in the fantastic season with a 14-5 overall record. The Knights will wait to see if they get a bid to the ECAC tournament.
