Box Score ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team defeated Centenary College 4-1 on a rainy, foggy Thursday evening in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinal matchup.
With the win, Neumann (10-8-1) will host Marywood in the CSAC Championship game on Saturday. Marywood defeated Cabrini in the other semifinal contest, 1-0.
The game was a battle from the start and emotions were high as the rights to the Championship match were at stake.
Brooks Skyers opened the scoring on a direct kick in the 18th minute. The ball had eyes as it made its way through a crowd of people in front of the net.
Jim McDowell put the Knights up 2-0 in the 21st minute as he netted the ball off a pass from Devin Peterson. Zach DiDonato gave Neumann its third goal as he put the ball in the back of the net after Andrew Kelly crossed the ball from the corner.
The Cyclones scored their only goal of the game in the 70th minute as they put the ball in the net off a rebound.
Skyers capped the scoring with his second goal of the game, converting a penalty kick in the 83rd minute. Jake McDevitt tapped the ball passed the Cyclones keeper as he was up towards midfield to help jump start the offense. As McDevitt closed into the goal, Centenary dragged him down and Neumann was awarded a penalty kick.
Neumann outshot Centenary 21-10 overall and 8-2 on goal. Dan Jones made one save to get the win.
