Box Score ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team won its third Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship in five seasons when it defeated Marywood in penalty kicks after playing to a 1-1 game.
With the win, the Knights will represent the CSAC in the NCAA Tournament. Dan Jones was named the MVP for making eight saves in the game and two saves in the penalty kicks.
Both goals in regulation were scored on penalty kicks. Brooks Skyers scored for the Knights in the seventh minute. The Pacers tied the game at one in the 52nd minute.
Both teams had their chances to win the game. Marywood tallied 19 shots while Neumann had 18. Both team had nine shots on net. Each keeper made diving saves to keep their own team in the game.
As 110 minutes was not enough time, the teams went to penalty kicks to determine the winner. The penalty kicks would be the best of five. The Pacers and Knights traded good kicks in the first attempt. Jones then made saves on the Pacers second and third attempts while the Knights made one-of-two for a 2-1 lead. Marywood tied the penalty kicks on its fourth attempt.
Skyers approached the line for his second chance in the game and connected for a 3-2 lead. The Pacers had to make the penalty kick to stay alive, and the attempt went high over the net and the Knights ran onto the field as they claimed the Title.
Neumann is now 10-8-2 this season and will wait for the NCAA Announcement on Monday to see where it will head for the first round.
