Knights Take Down Giants, Advance to Semifinals

ASTON, Pa. – The No. 3 seeded Neumann University men's basketball team defeated sixth seeded Keystone College 80-73 on Saturday afternoon in first round action of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoffs.

Kevin Green led five Knights in double-digits with 20 points. Mark Blount netted 19 points. Lamon Church and Reggie Coleman each added 15 points. DeShawn Lowman notched 11.

The beginning of the game featured five tied scores and six lead changes within the first seven minutes. Neumann began to build up a small lead, taking an eight point advantage, 26-18, on a Green three-pointer with 7:37 left in the first half. Down the stretch, Keystone outscored Neumann 9-4 for a two point Knights lead at the half, 68-36.

The Giants took a one point lead on one of their 12 baskets from behind the arc, three minutes into the second half. The basket came in the middle of an 11-0 run, including three straight three-pointers, and while Keystone scored 13 of 14 points over a three minute period. Blount ended the run with a dunk for a 50-44 Giants lead.

The Knights responded with 12 unanswered points to take a 54-52 lead with 13 minutes left in regulation. Over those 13 minutes, the teams would have four tied scores, the final one coming with 2:35 left on the clock and the score knotted at 73.

Church tipped in a rebound with 1:50 on the clock for a two point Knights lead and the final field goal of the game. In the final minute, only free throws would connect. Coleman hit 2-of-3 from the line after being fouled on a three-point attempt. Green went 1-for-2 twice. Lowman made 1-of-2 with six seconds left to seal the win.

Neumann (18-8) will travel to No. 2 seeded Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday evening in CSAC semifinal action. The other semifinal game will feature No. 5 Rosemont, who defeated No. 4 Immaculata, at No. 1 Cabrini.
