Women's Basketball Edged By Immaculata in Semifinal Action

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball fell to Immaculata University 60-53 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinal action on Wednesday evening.

Neumann was the No. 2 seed in the postseason and received a bye in the first round. Immaculata is the No. 3 seed and defeated Rosemont in the first round to advance to the semifinals.

Jessica Schlesman led the Knights with 17 points and seven assists. Erica Marvel added 10. JoHanna Metzger pulled down 13 boards and notched two blocked shots.

The deciding part of the game came down to the final two minutes. The Mighty Macs converted two free throws to take a 52-51 lead with 1:54 remaining in regulation. Marvel then connected on a jumper to take back a one point advantage.

However, that would be the last points Neumann would be able to score. Immaculata hit a layup and a free throw with 40 seconds left to take a 55-53 lead. The Mighty Macs went 5-for-6 from the line in the final 32 seconds to seal take home the win and advance to the CSAC Championship game.

The game was always close on the scoreboard the teams traded leads 13 times and knotted the score eight times. In the opening half, the Knights went on an 8-0 to take a 7-7 score and jump out to 15-7. Neumann held the largest lead of the game, 22-13, after a Marvel three-pointer with 7:26 left in the first. Immaculata began to chip its way back and knotted the game at 26 with 2:24 left in the first. The teams took a 28-all score into halftime.

During the second half, neither team could put together a run to take control. Each time a team would attempt to build on their lead, the other team would answer back, leading to the final two minutes to decide the game.

Neumann is now 15-10 overall and will wait to see if its season will continue when the ECAC Tournament announcements are made early next week.
