Knights Bid to Upset Cabrini Falls Short

RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell at No. 6 Cabrini College 96-79 on Friday evening in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship game.

Reggie Coleman led the Knights with 22 points. DeShawn Lowman netted 17 points. Mark Blount added 12 points and 10 rebounds. All 14 members that hit the floor contributed at least one point in the game. Neumann shot 45.6-percent from the floor.

The teams exchanges buckets early on and featured a tied game, 12-12, almost six minutes in. A three-pointer by the Cavaliers kicked off six straight points for Cabrini. Blount hit layup at the 11:05 mark to remain within four points, 22-18.

Again, Cabrini hit a three-pointer as part of scoring the next seven points for a 29-18 lead with 8:51 left in the first half. The Cavalier took a 46-36 lead into the locker room.

Neumann attempted to get back into the game and scored the seven of the first nine points in the second half to within five, 48-43. Cabrini answered by netting the next nine points to take a 14 point advantage, 57-43.

Blount ended the Cavalier run with a jumper, but then Cabrini notched the next 10 points for a 67-45 lead. Neumann continued its attempt to get back into the game, but Cabrini stood tall and kept the Knights at bay. The Cavaliers built their lead to as large as 26. The Knights scored seven straight points towards the end of the game to cut the lead to 91-72. Neumann played hard until the end, but could not get key baskets to fall when needed.

Neumann is 19-9 for the season and will now wait for the NCAA and ECAC Tournament announcements to be made to see if its season continues.
