Late Run Puts Knights Past Green Terror in ECAC Southeast Semifinals

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Neumann University men's basketball team (No. 2 seed) defeated McDaniel College (No. 3 seed) 73-65 in the semifinals of the ECAC Southeast Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Kevin Green led the Knights with 24 points. Mark Blount notched 16 points and 12 rebounds. Reggie Coleman and DeShawn Lowman each added 12 points.

With the teams knotted at eight, McDaniel went on a 13-6 run to take a 25-14 lead with five minutes left in the first half. Neumann netted the next six points for a 25-20 game. Green hit a three-pointer with 27 seconds left in the first half to stay within five, 32-27, at the break.

Neumann opened the second half to rally and tied the game at 38 with 16:47 left on the clock. Over the next seven minutes, the teams would have a tie score six times. The Knights took a 47-all game and went on a 16-6 run to take a 63-53 lead with 5:08 left in regulation. The Green Terror pulled back to within five, 63-58, with 3:22 remaining. The Knights built their lead back to 10 with under a minute left. The final minute came down to free throws and Coleman helped the Knights put away the game by going 5-for-6 from the line.

Neumann reaches 20 wins for the first time since the 2001-02 season and is 20-9 overall. The Knights will meet No. 1 seeded Stevenson University in the ECAC Southeast Championship game tomorrow. Tip-off is at 1:00 PM.
