Softball Championship Quest Falls Short against Cabrini

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team's quest for back-to-back Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championships came to an end with a 7-3 loss to Cabrini College on Saturday morning.

Becky Guinto had three hits. Courtney O'Connor had a homerun. Kristin Beaty started the game and went 3.0 innings. She allowed two runs on four hits and struck out two. Haley Broomell took the loss, going 3.1 innings. She allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and struck out two. Melissa Rozumalski went the final two-third of the inning and allowed three runs, one earned, on three hits.

Guinto knocked in Becca Reinhart for the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. O'Connor hit a solo shot in the second inning for a 2-0 Knights lead.

Cabrini took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third with a three-run homerun. The Cavaliers added an unearned run in the sixth and three runs, two unearned in the seventh for a 7-2 lead.

The Knights did not go quietly in the bottom of the seventh. Katie Halter reached on an error to start the inning. Allie White reached on a fielders choice. Neumann then had three straight singles to score a run and load the bases with one out. Guinto hit a laser that was caught by the Cavaliers and a runner was doubled off to end the threat and the game.

Neumann is now 24-11 and will wait for the ECAC announcement to see if its season will continue.
