SCRANTON, PA - After jumping out to a quick 1-0 lead, Marywood University allowed Neumann College to battle back before coming alive to capture games four and five as the Pacers outlasted Neumann 3-2 in a classic PAC volleyball match Monday evening in Scranton. The win moves the Pacers to 9-13 (4-2 PAC) while the Knights fall to 8-12 (1-4 PAC).
Marywood came out strong and took a commanding lead in the opening game, which the Pacers went on to win 30-23. The Knights, however, would not go away quietly, as they built an early 17-11 lead in game two. Marywood, however, battled all the way back and forced the Knights to stay on their toes. Neumann eventually took game two 32-30. The Knights would carry that momentum into game three, where Neumann would dominate and cruise to a 30-15 win.
The Knights, however, were not able to put the Pacers away, and after taking a commanding 14-7 lead in the fourth set, began to allow the Pacers to climb back into the game. Marywood would eventually make a run that took them all the way to the 30-28 win. Game five was all Marywood right from the start, as the Pacers built an early 10-4 lead and cruised to the 15-5 win.
Julie Tarloski's 18 Kills and Allison Hazewski's 32 digs led Neumann on the night. Rachel Williams and Jenna Halpin each had 10 kills for the Knights while Kristen Gregg led Neumann with a match-high 52 assists. .
Marywood returns to action Saturday when they host Immaculata University in a PAC match starting at 1:00 p.m. The Knights will look to rebound from tonight's loss when they travel to Rosemont College Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. PAC match.
