Aston, PA-The Neumann Knights women's volleyball team defeated the College Misericordia Cougars in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference match up, in The Bruder Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 30-25, 30-20, 26-30, 30-16.
Neumann College improved to 10-12 (3-4 PAC), while College Misericordia dropped to 9-12 (3-3 PAC).
Julia Tarloski paced the Knights with a game-high 19 kills and 5 service aces, while teammate Rachael Sokolovich had a double-double 11 kills 15 digs. Kristen Gregg notched her seventh double-double of the season with 41 assists and 11 digs, to go along with one kill and one service ace. As a team, the knights registered a .206 attack percentage and limited the Cougars to just a .012 clip.
Michelle Dicicco led the Cougars with 10 kills in the losing effort.
The Knights cruised in game one behind eight kills from Tarloski and four kills from Sokolovich for the 30-25 win. Neumann hit a blistering .234 and limited College Misericordia to just a .067 clip. Gregg (11 assists) and Jenna Halpin (four digs) also contributed to the balanced Knights. Neumann broke the set open with a 5-0 run to take a 27-23 lead, and went up by as many as 7 at 29-23, courtesy of a Cougar attack error.
Neumann kept its hot hitting in the second frame after a 30-20 win. Neumann registered another 12 kills for a .154 hitting percentage. College Misericordia registered just 7 kills and 13 errors on 44 swings for a -.136 hitting percentage.
College Misericordia kept things close in game three taking a 19-18 lead and eventually closing out Neumann, 30-26, after a Halpin service error. The Cougars only managed 11 kills in the set, but Neumann College hurt itself with 9 hitting errors.
The Knights eventually put away the Cougars, 30-16 in the fourth set, after kills by Gregg and Sokolovich put Neumann up 29-16 and an error by College Misericordia's Mary Beth Stellar gave the Knights game point.
Neumann College continues action on Thursday (Oct. 20) at 7 p.m. as the Knights meet Alvernia College at the Bruder Gymnasium on Neumann's Campus.
