Aston, PA. - Elizabeth Raiburn and Kelsey Toomey combined for 3 saves on the day, but the Neumann Knights women's soccer team was defeated by Gwynedd Mercy College, 2-0, Sunday at Bruder Field.
Neumann received spirited efforts from its seniors who were honored prior to the PAC contest for their hard work, dedication, and support of the Neumann Knights program. Natalie Lutz, who has appeared in 61 games, and Shana Mitchell, who has appeared in 67 games over their four years with the Knights, helped the Neumann withstand ear
ly pressure from the Griffins. However, it was not enough. Griffins forward Amanda Lipira scored the game-winning goal in the 32nd minute of the contest. The goal gave Gwynedd Mercy an early lead at 32:40 when she took a pass from Caitlin Volz and lofted a shot from 25 yards out that sailed into the left corner of the goal.
In the second half, Lauren Capotrio extend GMC's lead to 2-0, in the 60th minute, when she received a corner from Megan Volz and fired a shot into the lower left corner past Neumann's second-half keeper, Kelsey Toomey.
Neumann (6-7-2, 4-6 PAC) will face Arcadia on Tuesday, October 225, 2005 in their final PAC match up of the season.
