Aston, PA. - The Neumann Knights volleyball team (15-13) picked up their 15th win of the season and earned a place in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Semifinals with a 5-3 win over College Misericordia (12-14) at the Bruder Gymnasium (28-30, 30-14, 16-30, 30-17, and 15-11). The Win advances the Knights a PAC Semifinal match up with top seed Eastern University on Thursday Evening.
Neumann needed some time to settle down in the packed Neumann arena, as fans were going wild to support their home team. Neumann allowed the cougars to take a commanding seven point lead before Knights Head Coach Dena Jesperson took a time out to settle them. After returning to the court Neumann came with in two (29-27) behind Jenna Halpin's seven consecutive serves, but unfortunately for the Knights, the Cougars' Kelly Coppage took a perfect set by Chavonne Potts to win game one 30-26.
In game two the Knights took a five point lead behind kills from Meghan Wilson, Julie Tarloski, Jenna Halpin and Rachael Sokolovich and never looked back. The Knights killed game two 30-14 in 18 minutes. Game three went back to College Misericordia as the Cougars scored 3 before Neumann could get a point to go their way. The Knights made some outstanding plays, but continued to trail the Cougars as CM took game three 30-16.
Not wanting their season to end, the Knights fought hard in game four. Neumann took a ten point lead and held on (30-17) to push the match into a tie breaker. Game five started as a close match but the Knights managed to pull away, taking a five point lead, and then the game 11-15.
Sophomore Allison Hazewski had 4 serves aces and a game high 13 digs in the 5-3 victory.
With the win the Knights advance to the PAC semifinals and will travel to #1 Eastern University on Thursday, October 3. The match is set to start a 7:00 p.m.
