Haverford Pa., - The Neumann Knights took on Pennsylvania Athletic Conference foe Arcadia University in the third round of the Haverford College Volleyball Invitational. Both schools played to win in a match that was very close. Led by Julia Tarloski with 13 kills and Allison Hazewski with 11 digs the Neumann Knights overcame the Arcadia University in a very competitive match. The Knights advanced to the championship round winning 3-1.
In the championship round the Knights took on a powerhouse from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, M.I.A.C., Concordia College. Picked to finish third in the powerful M.I.A.C., Concordia came into the match looking to dominate the younger Neumann team. The Knights dismissed that notion in the first game. Leading 27-25 the Knights looked to put away Concordia only to see Concordia come back and take a 29-27 lead. Using their own grit and determination the Knights fought back to tie the score at 29-29 a piece before losing 32-30. In the next two games Neumann and Concordia challenged each other with long rallies and quick hard shots. In the end the Knights fell in straight sets to finish in second place for the tournament.
Interviewed after the game Coach Jespersen shared the pride of this experience with the entire team stating, "This was an exciting tournament for us and a tournament that everybody got to play in. I wanted to challenge us early and provide the opportunity to work everybody into the game." Through Coach Jespersen's leadership the Neumann Volleyball program is on the rise. The Knights have started off the 2005-06 season with a 4-1 record.
