Neumann's 18-point first half lead over College Misericordia pilots Neumann to a 3-2 edge in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC).
The Neumann Knights lit the Bruder Gymnasium on fire this afternoon scoring 36 of their 64 points in the first half. The Knights opened up the contest with a 7-point run behind co-captain Nellie Mixon whose left side-three gave Neumann a strong lead right from the start. The Knights then shot for another six straight behind sophomore guard Syreeta Brown, taking a 13-2 lead. The Cougars showed a little spark mid way through the first half attempting to close the gap (16-7) but were quickly extinguished by the Knights, who found their way to the net 7 more times for 13 points, ending the first half up 32-14.
The Knights allowed the Cougars a little breathing room in the second half but continued to fight. Mixon, who scored 8 in the first half, added 12 points to her total (20) in the second stanza. Mixon also recorded nine steals for the in the PAC victory. Co-captain Kirsten Patton scored 17 for the Knights while Ashley Leonard, Mixon, Patton, and Brown grabbed five rebounds a piece giving the Knights their third PAC win.
The Knights will return to action on Monday, January 16, at Rosemont College. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
