After defeating the Pioneers of Utica College in the title match of the 2005 St. Michael's Tournament three weeks ago the Knights knew that the Pioneers would be less than welcoming at the Utica Memorial Arena this weekend. However, the Knights would give all that they had, tying Utica in the first of the two-game weekend series before falling to the Pioneers on Saturday.

Neumann's Carolyn Fauteux scored two goals for the Knights in the 4-4 draw with Utica College, including the Knights game-tying goal at the 7:25 mark of the third period.  Sophomore Mary Zupan scored her first goal of the season after receiving an assist from freshman forwards Janelle Marier and Carly Fitzsimmons, putting the Knights up 1-0 early in the game. Marier and Fitzsimmons combined for their second points of the night just a 1 minute and 36 seconds later for a 2-0 Knights lead. Utica struggled to get on the board but managed to make the most of a power play opportunity, scoring at the 10 minute mark, after a checking call placed Robyn Armstrong in the box. As the Knights returned to full strength, Fauteux teamed up with Kristin Gauthier and Lindsay Parsons for her first, of two goals at 12:41. Utica answered with three consecutive goals taking a 4-3 advantage, however, they would hold that lead for only a 1:15, due to the second chance efforts of Fauteux who sent the game into overtime and ultimately ended the game 4-4.

Day two would be no picnic for the Knights as Neumann suffered a 5-1 loss against the weekend host. Utica would score two goals before Neumann's Fitzsimmons teamed up with Fauteux in an attempt to jump start the Knights. Fitzsimmons scored a wrist shot just before the nine minute mark closing the gap 2-1. Unfortunately for the Knights (8-7-2) that would be their only points of the evening, as the Pioneers (10-5-1) went on to score 3 more unanswered goals ending the night 5-1 Utica.

Neumann will look to rebound Saturday, January 28, 2006 at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.
