Neumann definitely looked to have the advantage on their home court after a 20-point first half run gave the Knights a commanding lead. In a very intense Pennsylvania Athletic Conference match up Wesley College (12-6, 10-2 PAC) after being down 20, went on a 9 point run and continued to chip away at the Knights lead for the remainder of the half. The last 10 minutes of the first half were very competitive, as the back and forth action between the two teams included 13 first half fouls and eluded to a 27-19 first half score. Knight's Syreeta Brown, Ashley Leonard and Kirsten Patton combined for 19 of the Knights 27 points. Wesley's Tricia Casarotto, played the full 20 minutes, scoring 8 for the Wolverines.
The second half began with the Wolverines putting on an extra amount of pressure that led to a continued high number of fouls. Five wolverines found themselves in foul trouble and were eventually joined by Kirsten Patton at the 5:30 mark. However the exceptional play of Kim Hinkle, Nellie Mixon and Syreeta Brown who stepped up, according to Coach Frank Farnese made the difference. "Stars of the game would definitely include Nellie Mixon, Kim Hinkle, and Kirsten Patton," stated Farnese. Mixon played all but 7 seconds of the game, recording 11 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block. Hinkle also finished in double figures scoring 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.
"Tonight's game was fantastic! It was a much needed win. I told the girls that if they were not mentally prepared for this game, Wesley would take advantage of it and beat us." Farnese said. "The coaching staff predicted a very physical game , and felt whoever controlled their emotions had the best shot at winning the game. I think we were able to do just that and it showed."
