Neumann Skates to Victory

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - Neumann College defeated ECAC West rival Utica College 3-0 for the Windjammer Saint Michael's College Tournament Title on Saturday at Cairns Arena.

In the title contest, Neumann (10-4) scored twice in the opening 10:03 and, despite not recording a shot on goal in the second period, hung on to win the championship. Sophomore Neil Trimm (Westmeath, Ontario) and freshman Mike Hedden (St. Catherines, Ontario) each tallied a goal and an assist in the first period; while freshman Keleigh Schrock (Fort Wayne, Ind.) sealed the victory with an unassisted goal in the 18th minute of the game. "This is a great testament of how hard work pays off. We know in order to be successful we must out work our opponents in all three zones for a full 60 minutes," stated Head Coach Dennis Williams.

Neumann sophomore Mike Collichio (Rochester, N.Y.) stopped all 30 shots he faced to earn the tournament's Most Valuable Player Award. "Collichio continues to be very solid. He has showed why he is a top rank goalie in the nation. He was very deserving of the MVP," stated Williams. It is nice to see the guys get some credit for their hard work. We still have a lot of work to do the second half of the year. However, I am very pleased with our effort thus far."

After defeating Utica 3-1 earlier in the season at home and once again for the St. Michael's Tournament trophy, Neumann will look to record a four-game sweep of the Pioneers when they return to action in Utica, New York on Friday, January 6, and Saturday, January 7, 2006.
