The Neumann Knights faced off against ECAC West rival Utica College for the third time this season, falling to the Pioneers 2-1 in an overtime heart breaker in Utica, New York.
Utica took and early lead, out shooting the Knights 10-7 in the first period and scoring in the 9th minute of the game. The Knights fought back sliding one in between the pipes at the 17:23 mark of the second stanza when Neil Trimm took a pass from teammates Kyle Casey and Mike Hedden making it a 1-1 game. Both team remained scoreless in the third period sending the evening match up into overtime, However, Utica would keep the extra period short as the Pioneers ended the game 23 seconds in when Kevin Krogel scored a short handed goal, giving Utica the 2-1 win.
Neumann's Mike Collichio had 26 saves in net for the Knights. For his efforts Collichio was awarded the third star of the game.
Neumann now 2-1 against the Pioneers this season will look to turn the table on their ECAC West host, in the second game of the weekend series tomorrow at 7 p.m.
