MINNEAPOLIS (1/6/06) -- Samantha May (So., Whitestone, N.Y./Canterbury HS) scored two goals, while Carolyn Fauteux (So., Aurora, Ontario/Cardinal Carter HS) had a goal and two assists, leading Neumann College (Pa.) to a 7-3 victory over Augsburg College (Minn.) in a non-conference women's hockey game Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Bianca DeSantis (Fr., Georgetown, Mass./Lawrence Academy HS), Jessica McAllister (So., Philadelphia, Pa./St. Maria Goretti HS) and Carly Fitzsimmons (Fr., Capreol, Ontario/St. Charles College HS) had a goal and assist apiece, and Jessica Bryan (Fr., West Chester, Pa.) had three assists for the Knights, now 6-4-1 overall. Neumann has won its last six games in a row.
Jocelyn Cookson (Sr., Edina, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS) had two goals for Augsburg, now 3-6-2 overall.
Neumann outshot Augsburg by a 33-20 margin, including a 13-2 advantage in the first period. Teresa White (So., Salem, Ore./North Salem HS) made 17 saves for Neumann, while Amanda Bockmann (So., Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego HS) made 26 saves for Augsburg.
Neumann scored twice in a 26-second span early in the game to take the lead, with Fauteux and May notching goals. Fitzsimmons put the Knights up 3-0 with a goal 11 seconds into the second period.
Augsburg scored its first goal of the game at the 3:10 mark of the second period, as Cookson scored an unassisted, 4-on-4 tally.
But Neumann then scored three straight power-play goals, as DeSantis scored at the 4:45 mark, May scored at the 17:00 mark of the second period, and Vicki Scott (Fr., Scarborough, Ontario/Birchmount Park HS) scored on a two-skater advantage at the 2:38 mark of the third period. McAllister completed the scoring for Neumann with a goal midway through the third period.
Neumann went 3-for-6 on the power play, while Augsburg did not score in its six power-play opportunities.
Augsburg scored twice in the third period, as Brittney LeBlanc (So., Anoka, Minn.) scored from Jennilee Moe (So., Brookings, S.D./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) at the 9:36 mark, and Cookson scored from Katie Johnson (So., Montrose, Minn./Wayzata HS) at the 16:07 mark.
The teams complete the non-conference series on Saturday (1/7) at 2:15 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena. Neumann will complete its three-game trip to the Twin Cities area with a game at Wisconsin-River Falls on Sunday (1/8) at 2:05 p.m.
