POTSDAM, N.Y. - Neumann College (1-0) opened its 2006-07 regular season with a 6-2 win over SUNY Potsdam (0-1) in non-conference action Saturday night at Maxcy Hall.

Neumann's Mike Hedden and Kyle Casey scored the first two goals of the season in the first 13 minutes of play. The duo added a goal each before the final horn to give the Knights their first win of the 2006-07 season, 6-2.

Neumann got on the board first with two early goals by Hedden and Casey before Potsdam closed the gap to one with a power-play goal at 18:10 of the first period.

Neumann took advantage of Potsdam's misbehaving; as the Knights went on to score two power-play goals in the second period, extending their lead 4-1.  Neumann Knight Mark Van Vliet scored his first collegiate goal, on the power play, three minutes into the second stanza.  Casey also took advantage of a Knights man up opportunity scoring his second of the night at 18:40.

Neumann made the score 5-1 in the third, after freshman Matt Ward took a pass from Brock Van Slyke in the first two minutes of play, recording their first points of the season. Potsdam added one more to their tally before play was done but could not slow the reaction of Knights' goalie Mike Collichio, who had 23 saves on the night or Mike Hedden, who added his second and the final goal of the night at the 16:49 mark.

Sophomores Kyle Casey and Mike Hedden scored two goals each for Neumann. Junior Neil Trimm made five assists, junior Mike Gooch had two and Casey contributed one.

Potsdam and Neumann return to action tomorrow (Sunday) at Maxcy Hall. The puck will drop at 2 p.m.
