Neumann Overpowers Bears In-Route to 6-3 Win on Sunday

POTSDAM, N.Y. -Neumann College (2-0) completed a weekend sweep of SUNY Potsdam (0-2), 6-3, in its second game of men's ice hockey's season opening weekend series.

Potsdam went up 1-0 in the first eight minutes of play but was quickly put back into its place as Neumann answered with three with three power-play tallies of their own - two in the first period and one in the second. Neumann finished 5-for-18 on the power play while Potsdam was 1-for-8.

Kyle Casey scored his third goal of the weekend after Mark Van Vliet and Neil Trimm set up the play and was granted with the assist. Matt Ward add the Knight second of the day and closed out the first period scoring, at 19:49 after a hooking and elbowing penalty gave the Knights a two-man advantage.

Kyle Casey scored the Knights third power-play goal two-minutes into the second stanza giving Neumann a 3-1 lead.  Potsdam put forth a two-goal come back late in the second period but Neumann again put on the pressure, scoring three unanswered goals in the third period to lead the Knights to their second victory of the season, 6-3.

Kyle Casey (Stratford, Ont. /Stratford Cullitions) led the Knights with two goals and three assists while Neil Trimm (Westmeath, Ont. /Pembroke Lumber Kings) notched a goal and two assists. Also for Neumann, Mike Hedden (St. Catherines, Ont./Thorold Blackhawks) had a goal and an assist and Mark Van Vliet (Dorchester, Ont./Quinnipiac) made three assists.

Neumann goalies Mike Collichio (15) and Brett Leonhardt (5) combined for 20 saves in the win while Potsdam goalie Vince Cuccaro (Ottawa, Ont./Kanata Stallions) finished with 31 saves.
