RADNOR, Pa. - Junior goalie Chelsea Ward came up with 13 saves and five different players scored goals Wednesday night as visiting Neumann took an eye for an eye, shocking favored Cabrini 5-0 and avenging a 5-0 loss to the Cavaliers a year ago.
Cabrini (5-7, 5-2) held on to third place in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference despite the loss, while Neumann (6-7, 3-2) jumped into fourth. The top six teams in the 12-team league earn berths in the conference playoffs.
While Ward recorded her second shutout of the year, three teammates erupted for their first goals of the season and two others picked up their second goals.
Junior forward Gabriele Bendistis got Neumann rolling with her second of the year 18:23 into the game, and just 3:06 later sophomore forward Kerri Sinclair followed up with her first.
Senior back Ashlee Hodge scored on a penalty stroke for her own first goal of the season, making it 3-0 with 2:14 left in the half.
Cabrini had its chances in the second half, out shooting Neumann 11-5 and forcing six penalty corners to none for the Knights. But Ward came up big, turning away eight shots.
The issue was decided long before junior Britani Walsh scored her first of the year with 11:32 left in the game and sophomore Rachel DiCicco added her second with 2:29 remaining.
