Utica, NY-Neumann fought back from a two-goal deficit in the first period to tie the Utica College Pioneers 2-2 in men's ice hockey action this evening.
Utica took an early 2-0 lead over the Knights scoring two goals in the first period. The Knights were able to counter, scoring a goal in each the second and third periods. Neumann closed the gap 2-1 when Mark Van Vliet scored on a Neumann power play in the second period. The Knights added one more goal when Mike Heddan tied the game in the third period, with a rebound shot at the 18 minute mark, sending the game into overtime.
Though Utica out shot Neumann 36-21 the Knights received an outstanding performance by starting goaltender Mike Collichio, who had 34 saves in net. For his efforts Collichio earned the first star of the game.
Neumann will return to action tomorrow evening when they will be hosted by Manhattanville College at 7:00 p.m. in Purchase, New York.
