The 14th-Ranked Knights Battle the Valiants to a 3-3 Draw

Rye, N.Y. - The 14th-ranked Neumann Knights put the first blemish on Manhattanville's 2006-07 record, tallying a 5-on-3 goal late in the third period to earn a 3-3 tie with the Valiants at the Playland Ice Casino on Saturday.

 

Neil Trimm capitalized on a pair of Manhattanville penalties late in the third period, scoring on a pass from Mark Van Vliet and Mike Hedden. Trimm's goal tied the score at 3 less than 5-minutes into the period.

 

Neumann's Mark Van Vliet scored his seventh goal of the season at the 15-minute mark of the first period, giving the Knights an early 1-0 lead. Manhattanville answered Neumann's early goal with three consecutive goals by Murfitt, Ruberto, and Lynden putting the hosts up 3-1. However, Neumann's Dayne Bihn had no intension of letting the #3 ranked Valiants get comfortable with their lead. The junior forward from Toledo, Ohio hit his mark at 8:12 into the second period closing the gap on Manhattanville 3-2.

 

With the Knights down by one, Neumann knew what had to be done. The Knights pulled together to kill-off two penalties early in the third period before going on a 5X3 advantage. On the 5-3, Neumann's Neil Trimm proved why he is the one of the top players in the league. With a quick wrist Trimm scored the game tying goal at 15:05 sending both teams into overtime for the first time in series history.

 

After five minutes of highly skilled play in overtime the two teams left the ice in a 3-3 draw.

 

Mike Collichio made 40 saves to improve to 3-1-2 on the season including 19 saves in overtime. Manhattanville's Andrew Gallant made 23 saves and fell to 6-0-1.

 

Neumann will return to action next weekend at the MSOE Tournament in Milwaukee Wisconsin. The Knights will open the weekend tournament against Wisconsin-Stout University at 3:00 p.m. on November 26.
