Box Score:
HERSHEY, Pa. - Neumann College (4-1, 1-0 ECAC West) erupted for five second-period goals, turning a 3-1 lead into an 8-1 cushion as the Knights defeated Lebanon Valley (0-2, 0-1 ECAC West) 10-3 in the ECAC West ice hockey opener for both teams Friday evening at the Hershey Park Arena.
With the Knights fourth win of the season, Head Coach Dennis Williams became the winningest coach in program history.
Neil Trimm scored two goals and handed out one assist, Jesse Cole scored a pair of goals, and Mike Hedden distributed four assists for the Knights, who had 16 different players record at least one point. The Knights' 10 goals against Lebanon Valley College set a new program record for most goals scored in a game.
Neumann got on the scoreboard 7:54 into the game, when Todd Gilmore poked in a loose puck following a rebound. The Knights doubled their lead just less than four minutes later on a Kyle Casey blast from the right circle.
LVC sophomore Matt Rowe made it 2-1 with 5:34 remaining in the period when he scored his first goal of the season, rattling a shot off the crossbar from the right post.
Neumann restored its two-goal advantage with 3:37 on the clock, as Cole tipped in a shot in front of the net.
The Knights came out smoking at the start of the second period, scoring twice over the opening 1:27 on a Mark Van Vliet wraparound and a Trimm cross-ice one-timer. Neumann scored three more times before the end of the stanza, extending its lead to 8-1.
Cole struck again 7:59 into the second period, rebounding in a Brock Van Slyke blast from just inside the blue line. Ryan Heickert's stumbling back-hander between the circles made it 7-1 with 9:02 on the clock, and Trimm punched in a rebound with 6:52 left in the period.
Neumann scored its seventh unanswered goal just 1:17 into the third period, as Donovan Hall converted a quick one-timer from the left post. LVC freshman Casey Mignone then scored his second goal in as many games, going top shelf after stealing a pass in Neumann's zone. After a Kyle Casey goal for Neumann, freshman Andy Orsini set the final tally for the Dutchmen when he scored for the second game in a row with 2:43 left.
Mike Collichio made 18 saves in goal for the Knights while freshman Aaron Miller stopped 37 shots for the Dutchmen over the opening 42:04. Making his collegiate debut, sophomore Kelly Curl turned aside seven shots while playing the final 17:56.
