Knights Set the Pace on Marywood, 92-69

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann Knights (4-1, 1-0 PAC) battled the Pacers of Marywood University (2-2, 0-1 PAC) in women's basketball action this evening in front of a sold-out crowd at the Knights' Bruder Gymnasium.  The Knights set the pace early and continued to keep up the tempo throughout the game en route to a 92-69 final victory. 

 

The Pacers of Marywood made the first shot of the night, however the Knights quickly answered with a 9-point run led by Brittany Whetts (Bartram/Philadelphia, Pa.) and Syreeta Brown (St. Elizabeth's /Wilmington, De.) who opened the scoring for the Knights with a three-pointer.  Marywood tightened the gap on the Knights, 19-17, with 13:10 remaining in the half, but were unable to overtake the lead. Neumann concluded the first half with a 39-36 advantage over the Pacers.

 

Heading into the second half the Knights kept their momentum, capitalizing on every opportunity and never allowing the Pacers to gain an edge.  Neumann controlled the court in the second half which led them to two outstanding runs; the first added up to an impressive 11 points, led by freshman Brittany Whetts with 6 out of 11.  The second run (9) was led by Caitlin Agnew (Little Flower/ Philadelphia, Pa.) and Whetts, with 6 and 3 points, respectively. 

 

Neumann was led by Brittany Whetts with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Caitlin Agnew added 15 points while Dominique Thompson (Conestoga/Wayne, Pa.) scored 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in the win.  Marywood was led by Caity Hadzimichalis with 25 points.  The Knights ended the night with 56 total rebounds and a 63.6% total rebound percentage.

 

This win sets the Knights on a four game winning streak as they will prepare to battle their next opponent Wesley College, on the road this Saturday, December 2nd. Tip off time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Dover, De.
