Aston, Pa. - The No. 8 Neumann College men's ice hockey team (7-1-3, 2-0-4 ECAC West), played to a 3-3 draw against No. 10 Hobart College (4-2-2, 1-2-1 ECAC West) in an ECAC West League game on Friday night at the Ice Works Quad Arena.
The tie keeps Neumann four points ahead of the Statesmen in the ECAC West League standings and two away from the lead spot.
Neumann's Donavon Hall opened the scoring at the 4:58 mark of the first period, after receiving a pass from Ryan Heickert. Hobart tied the score at 13:40 on a goal from Shawn Houde. The Knights took a one goal advantage with 2:51 left in the period. Brock Van Slyke notched the goal putting the Knights up 2-1 going into the first intermission.
Hobart's Edward Brzek tied the score again for the Statesmen at the 11:21 mark of the middle period. Just over three minutes later, Neumann's Mike Gooch shot the puck past Hobart's goalie Keith Longo for the 3-2 second period lead.
Neumann held off Hobart through most of the third period, preserving the one goal lead. However, Hobart's Edward Brzek flicked in the game-tying nod off a pass from Jonathan Swift and Andrew Brennan with 3:47 left remaining on the game clock.
Neumann out-shot Hobart 4-2 in overtime however; both goalies provided their team with exceptional defense in between the pipes. Neumann's Mike Collichio and Hobart's Keith Longo each stopped 31 shots in the net.
Neumann will return to action tomorrow against Elmira College at 7:00 PM at the Ice Works Arena in Aston, Pa.
