Cortland, N.Y. - Junior goalie Teresa White made 22 saves and sophomore Jessica Bryan scored the game-winning goal late in the second period as the Neumann women's ice hockey team skated past Cortland, 2-1, Friday night at Alumni Arena in ECAC Women's West action. With the win, the Knights improved to 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference, while the Red Dragons fell to 0-6-1 and 0-4-1.
Cortland opened up a 1-0 lead at 17:57 of the first period when sophomore Kalee Stoever set up senior Judy Ellis' wrist shot from the slot that beat White. Neumann netted both of its goals in the second period. The Knights tied the game at 16:35 when freshman Holly Williams knocked in a rebound of junior Carolyn Fauteux's shot for her first career goal. Two and a half minutes later, Fauteux and sophomore Robyn Armstrong assisted on Bryan's power-play goal just one second after a Neumann player got out of the box.
Neither team scored in the third period with Neumann out shooting the Red Dragons, 11-3. Cortland junior goalie Olivia Nuzzo, who made 24 saves in the game, kept the Knights' lead at just one goal. Cortland pulled Nuzzo over the final 34 seconds but couldn't tie the game up.
The two teams will return to action tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at Alumni Arena in Cortland, New York.
